John Sutton asks "Did Charles II hide in Ipswich's Ancient House during his epic flight after the battle of Worcester in 1651?" While compelling evidence exists to refute this idea, a more distant association between the two can be established. For the woman who played the most vital role in Charles II's preservation - the royalist heroine Jane Lane - almost certainly took refuge in the Ancient House when she herself was on the run shortly after the Merry Monarch's Great Escape. This is a tale of derring-do, intrigue and suspense. Admission is free with a retiring collection to defray expenses. Donations of at least two pounds per head are valued to maintain the series. Tea and coffee are served from 12.30pm.
